Today, as the hearing starts for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, leading progressive groups have kicked off a campaign to urge Senate Democrats to use every tool available to them—including the filibuster—to block Gorsuch’s nomination.
Led by NARAL Pro-Choice America, MoveOn.org, Civic Action, Daily Kos, CREDO, Ultraviolet, and Progressive Change Campaign Committee are sending their millions of members emails today to get them to call Senate Democrats and urge them to filibuster Judge Gorsuch.
You can see NARAL’s email below.
Statement of Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America:
“Judge Gorsuch is not a mainstream nominee. He is more conservative than Justice Scalia and throughout his career has failed to protect everyday Americans’ constitutional rights in favor of propping up corporations and special interests. If his nomination clears the Senate, Judge Gorsuch will be in a position to cement Donald Trump’s dangerous and reckless policies in place for generations to come.
“Our message to Senate Democrats is clear: everything from Roe v. Wade to LGBTQ rights to workers’ rights are on the line. A simple ‘no’ vote is not enough. Our members are counting on Democrats to filibuster this nomination.”
“The People’s Defense” is a massive grassroots campaign with actions planned in all 50 states to defeat Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Joining the campaign, which has been organized by NARAL Pro-Choice America, are Indivisible, American Federation of Teachers, Center for American Progress Action Fund, CREDO Action, End Citizens United, EveryVoice, MoveOn.org Civic Action, People for the American Way, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Service Employees International Union, and Stand Up America.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
